Among other things, the COVID-19 pandemic made telecommute legit, and alongside it, after lockdowns were down, many telecommuters began to work from coffee shops.
It makes sense — affordable place, free WIFI, and great vibes. However, after a while, business proprietors started to be irritated that a single individual could hold up a table for a couple of hours while ordering one mug of coffee.
Today I walked by a coffee shop with this enormous sign — “NO-WIFI”; the intention is to ward those single-cup table holders off, yet doing so is far from reasonable.
Why?
First, MiFi and area of interest… We’re in 2022, who needs Wifi?
All things considered, I get it’s nice to have it, however indeed possible to get by without it, so the NO-WIFI policy is futile.
Second, the temporary benefit of not having not many clients conquers the possibility of upselling them by offering special prices or promotion deals.
Also, allocating seats and creating dedicated areas (like the bar or stand-up tables) will populate low areas and complete a thriving place’s look. It’s smarter to have a packed area while saying that other areas are reserved than to have an unfilled place waiting for the right clients to arrive and go through some cash on the menu.
Lastly, according to a marketer’s perspective — displaying a large sign with “NO” is never great. In any case, this is only my take on this.
